Crunch Corn Brings Giant Corn Snacking Innovation

Popcorn Kitchen launches Crunch Corn, a giant Peruvian Choclo corn snack inspired by Seville Food Fair, offering three flavours and positioning itself as an HFSS-friendly alternative to crisps and nuts.

Popcorn Kitchen has unveiled its latest product line, Crunch Corn, marking what the company describes as a natural evolution in its snacking portfolio. Founder Louise Monk and her team have developed the product as part of their continued focus on premium corn-based snacks. While the brand has built its reputation on mushroom popcorn, the new offering shifts attention to a different corn variety, delivering a firmer and more substantial crunch.

The concept for Crunch Corn emerged in 2023 during the Feria de Abril in Seville, where Monk encountered roasted giant corn kernels served in local bars and eateries. Inspired by the texture and flavour, she began sourcing Peruvian Chocolo giant corn, known for its large size and robust crunch compared to traditional sweetcorn.

  • Positioned as an HFSS-friendly snack alternative
  • Marketed as a substitute for crisps, nuts, and seeds
  • Emphasises simple ingredients and no filler “snack dust”

After two years of product development, including sourcing and flavour refinement, Crunch Corn is now launching in three varieties: Sea Salt, Salt & Vinegar, and Spicy Chilli, all packaged in 100g sharing bags.

“We cooked up Crunch Corn because we wanted to create a more complete savoury treat for those underwhelmed by potato crisps and frustrated by spiralling costs of allergy-risking nuts and seeds.”

The company positions the product as a fibre-rich, HFSS-compliant alternative to conventional snacks such as crisps, nuts, and seeds. It also highlights the product’s simplicity, emphasising whole kernels without fillers or excess seasoning.

Speaking on the launch, Monk said the goal was to create “a more complete savoury treat” for consumers seeking alternatives to traditional snacks, particularly those concerned about rising costs and dietary restrictions.

Crunch Corn is now available via the company’s website and is expected to expand into wider retail distribution.
