Retro Interiors Meet the Electric Energy of Soho

TANGRA, Soho’s newest hotspot, celebrates Indo-Chinese cuisine with bold, nostalgic flavours, inventive sharing dishes, vibrant cocktails, and retrofuturist interiors inspired by Kolkata’s Hakka legacy and Mumbai’s buzzing street food culture.

Soho is set to spice things up this November with the highly anticipated opening of TANGRA, a vibrant new Indo-Chinese restaurant from Executive Chef Nikesh Sawant and his team. Drawing inspiration from India, Tibet, Nepal, and the many influences that have shaped Indo-Chinese cuisine, TANGRA promises to deliver bold flavours, nostalgia, and a touch of innovation to the heart of one of London’s liveliest neighbourhoods.

A Culinary Tribute to Indo-Chinese Legacy

Named after Kolkata’s Tangra district – the historic epicentre of Indo-Chinese cuisine – the restaurant celebrates the unique fusion born from the city’s Hakka Chinese community. By blending traditional Hakka techniques with Indian spices and local ingredients, a whole new culinary style was born, and TANGRA’s menu honours this legacy, enhanced by contemporary flair.

Expect a flavour-packed journey with dishes like Manchurian Kofta, Hakka noodles, and their signature TANGRA Special Combination Rice, alongside playful takes such as the must-try Hakko – a Hakka-style taco wrapped in paratha. Other highlights include Himawan Sadeko Chick’n, the fiery Gobi 65, and nostalgic street-style eats like Chinese Bhel and Bazaar MOMO stuffed with sweetcorn and cheddar cheese.

“It’s food with heat, depth, and character,” says Chef Nikesh Sawant. “For me, Indo-Chinese cooking is pure nostalgia – it’s Bombay nights with plates of Manchurian and noodles shared until sunrise. We’ve brought that same joy to TANGRA, where every sauce is made fresh in-house using spices sourced directly from India. It’s fiery, unapologetic, and packed with attitude.”

Cocktails and Mocktails to Match the Spice

TANGRA delivers just as much punch at the bar as it does on the plate. Standout cocktails include the tropical Piña Kolkata, blending spiced rum with amla ginger and coconut, and the unique Rasgulla Espresso Martini, which takes the classic drink on an Indian-inspired twist with spiced rum and allspice syrup. For those skipping the alcohol, the No and Lo menu brings tangy refreshment with Jal Jeera and No’Rita 0%, a non-alcoholic twist on the margarita featuring lime and kala khatta – an Indian sweet-and-sour treat.

Soho Vibes, Mumbai Soul

TANGRA’s interiors reflect the buzzing electric energy of Soho with a nod to the colour and vibrancy of Mumbai. Bold retro-futurist designs mix with Indian mythology and pop culture influences. Perforated timber, glowing signage, patterned floors, brass accents, and textured finishes make the space feel at once nostalgic and thoroughly modern.

Located just steps from Soho landmarks like Ronnie Scott’s and Bar Italia, TANGRA perfectly captures the area’s late-night energy, offering service until 1:30 am Thursday to Saturday.

Don’t miss the launch of TANGRA, opening Monday 3rd November 2025. It’s the perfect place for bold flavours, cocktails with character, and a buzzing atmosphere that screams Soho with a Bombay soul.
