Located in the vibrant neighbourhood of Newington Green, the second Babsang location is the perfect spot for your midweek dinner. This new Korean restaurant brings a fresh dining experience to the area, known for its authentic flavours and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant is cosy, with good lighting that creates a warm and welcoming environment—perfect for a relaxed meal.

Babsang is celebrated for its variety of dishes, including K.F.C. (Korean Fried Chicken), BBQ Beef, and Kimchi Pancakes. For my starter, I tried the homemade kimchi (pickled cabbage), a vegan-friendly recipe that skips the fish sauce. I loved how each piece of cabbage was cut into identical squares, making it visually appealing. The kimchi had a delightful tanginess, and the portion was generous—definitely enough for one! Since I can never get enough kimchi (it’s famously good for the gut), I also ordered a kimchi pancake. Again, the portion was more than enough, and while it was fried, it felt surprisingly light and flavourful.

For my main, I opted for the classic bibimbap—a Korean bowl of steamed rice topped with seasoned vegetables and mixed with Korean red chilli paste. This dish leaned a bit on the spicy side for my taste, but it was filling and warming. The owner kindly explained that “bibim” means “mixing” in Korean and showed me the proper mixing method. The key is to cover all the ingredients with the red paste hidden beneath the rice.

The service at Babsang was wonderful, with attentive staff who were eager to share their knowledge of the menu and ensure a pleasant dining experience. Their friendliness added to the overall enjoyment of the meal.

Babsang impresses with its authentic Korean flavours and generous portions. Each dish, from the tangy kimchi to the delightful kimbap, showcases culinary excellence, making it a must-visit dining destination.

My favourite dish, however, was the avocado kimbap, which features steamed rice and seasoned vegetables wrapped in Korean dry seaweed. It was a substantial portion and left me pleasantly full. While kimbap is similar to sushi, I still lean towards sushi for its flavours and variety.

Overall, I had a nice meal at Babsang and would recommend it for both dining in and ordering takeout for a cosy night at home. Next time, I’m definitely trying the table BBQ—it looked like a fun group activity at the table next to me!
