Conclude with our final thoughts on why Gateway of India should be on your list when visiting Cardiff

Gateway of India in Cardiff offers exceptional Indian cuisine with eco-friendly packaging, standout dishes like Chicken Tikka Masala, and a welcoming atmosphere, making it a must-visit for authentic, flavourful dining experiences.

Cardiff, Wales – Last Sunday, I had the pleasure of embarking on a culinary journey from London to Cardiff, Wales, with an illustrious group that included Yawar Khan, President of the Asian Catering Federation, legendary Nepalese Chef Binod Baral, and George Shaw, CEO of Avocado Media. Our destination was Gateway of India, an award-winning establishment known for its exquisite array of Indian dishes.

Located in the heart of Cardiff, Gateway of India is a charming spot that excels in preparing and packaging an impressive selection of 72 different curries. Each dish is freshly made, meticulously packed, and delivered daily, ensuring a consistently high standard of quality and flavour.

As part of our role as judges for the Asian Curry Awards, we recently participated in a check cook-off at West London University last week, in addition to Gateway of India and some other Asian cuisine spots across the UK.

Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the owner, Maslour Rahman, his wife Elen, and Chef Amando Grafori Rozario. Rahman shared the inspiring story of their humble beginnings in 1995, starting from their kitchen and growing their business with a focus on homemade curry concepts. As he aptly put it, “It is not what we do, it is how we do it.”

Our culinary adventure began with a delectable array of starters: vegetable-stuffed curry samosas, chicken dal pakoras, chre snack, and three different sauces. After a four-hour journey from London, these crispy, perfectly cooked bites were a delightful and satisfying treat. The samosas and chicken dal pakoras, in particular, stood out for their texture and flavour, embodying the essence of a great starter.

Indian Gateway in Cardiff excels in authentic Indian cuisine, eco-friendly practices, and warm hospitality, making it a must-visit gem.

Following the starters, we were treated to a live cooking demonstration by Elen and Amando in their kitchen, which, though small, was impeccably clean and well-organized. The sight of 22 people working in seamless coordination within this space was a testament to their efficiency and dedication. Among the dishes prepared, the Chicken Tikka Masala was a highlight – a delightful fusion of tender chicken and creamy, spiced tomato sauce, achieving a perfect balance of flavour and richness. Another standout was the grilled Bangladeshi fish, turned into a flavourful kofte, showcasing Elen’s culinary finesse.

We were also able to sample a variety of other dishes, including lamb nils kebab, couscous, lamb dupiaza, pilau rice, and, of course, more chicken tikkas. Each dish was a testament to Gateway of Indian’s commitment to quality and authenticity.

Chef Binod Baral praised Gateway of Indian when I asked his thoughts about Gateway of India – “Sleek concept, great food, nice packaging, biodegradable, compostable, earth-friendly. Good food, clean, they know what they are doing, short menu with the best of British classics.

Gateway of Indian not only excels in its culinary offerings but also takes pride in its sustainable practices, using biodegradable and compostable packaging. This eco-friendly approach, combined with their exceptional food, makes Indian Gateway a standout destination in Cardiff.

If you find yourself in Cardiff and are craving authentic, delicious Indian cuisine, Gateway of Indian is a must-visit. The combination of flavourful dishes, warm hospitality, and a commitment to quality ensures a dining experience that is both memorable and satisfying.
